Dr. Yuyi You is an Associate Professor at Macquarie Medical School, Macquarie University. Their research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases including Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Glaucoma, and Alzheimer’s Disease, with emphasis on retinal ganglion cell neuroprotection, demyelination mechanisms, and global health burden analysis. They lead projects investigating diagnostic markers for early Alzheimer’s, neuroprotective therapies for glaucoma, and the role of demyelination in MS pathophysiology.
Key research interests include:
- Neurodegenerative mechanisms in MS and glaucoma
- Retinal imaging as diagnostic biomarkers
- Neuroprotective drug development
- Global burden of disease forecasting
Recent articles highlight work on MRI correlates of MS pathology, kynurenine pathway dysregulation in MS, and amyloid-beta/tau protein interactions beyond Alzheimer’s. Collaborations span neurology, ophthalmology, and public health domains.
Active grants include projects funded from 2011-2024 exploring gene therapies, neurotrophic factors, and transsynaptic degeneration mechanisms. Their work has been cited over 8,650 times with an h-index of 39.
