معرفی
Dr. Devaraj Basavarajappa is a Senior Research Fellow at Macquarie Medical School, Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences, Macquarie University. His research centers on neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation mechanisms in optic neuropathies and trans-synaptic neurodegeneration within the visual pathway.
Education:
- PhD from Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) laboratory, India
Research Interests: Dr. Basavarajappa employs degenerative animal models to investigate cellular signaling, cell death pathways, microRNAs, and neuroinflammatory processes in glaucoma and retinal diseases. His fingerprint analysis reveals dominant expertise in:
- Glaucoma (100% research focus)
- Retinal Ganglion Cell pathology (49%)
- Microglia and neuroinflammation (67-85% across studies)
- Trans-synaptic neurodegeneration mechanisms
Publication Trends: Recent outputs (2023-2025) show intensified focus on human post-mortem analysis of immune dysregulation in glaucoma, with 10 publications in 2024 alone. His work bridges basic neuroscience and clinical ophthalmology, prioritizing diagnostic markers and neuroprotective strategies for neurodegenerative eye diseases.
Projects & Funding: Key initiatives include
- The next generation of medicine-Gene therapy for glaucoma (2022)
- Retinal Changes as diagnostic marker to identify Early Alzheimer’s Disease (2019-2021)
Collaborative Networks: Active collaborations span Macquarie University departments, Dean McGee Eye Institute (USA), and Karolinska Institute (Sweden), with significant co-authorship on glaucoma and Alzheimer's-related retinal biomarkers.
