She completed her PhD at Sydney University on ocular developmental biology and held an ARC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Save Sight Institute.
- NHMRC-funded PROGRESSA Study (glaucoma progression)
- Retinal vascular biomarkers for cardiovascular risk in sleep apnea
- Collaborative work on LVAD patients and Alzheimer’s disease diagnostics
Her research focuses on clinical imaging techniques, including optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography, to investigate structural and vascular retinal changes in glaucomatous eyes, obstructive sleep apnea, and left ventricular assist device (LVAD) patients. Recent publications highlight her interdisciplinary work in glaucoma genetics, neuroinflammation, and neurodegenerative biomarkers.
- 2025: Multitrait polygenic risk score for glaucoma
- 2024: Vascular defects in glaucoma and sleep apnea
- 2024: BDNF Val66Met and cortical structure in aging
Dr Schulz has received notable recognition, including an ARC Postdoctoral Fellowship and leading NHMRC-funded research. She collaborates across disciplines, with contributions to studies on Alzheimer’s disease diagnostics and LVAD patient monitoring.
