Yumi Parks is a Lecturer in the School of Modern Languages at Georgia Institute of Technology, joining in Fall 2022. She teaches Introductory and Intermediate Japanese, as well as specialized courses like Japan Today: Toward a Sustainable Society and Conversation Practicum. Her expertise spans Japanese language education, cultural studies, and curriculum design for diverse learners.
Education: Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction (focus on diverse learners), Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication.
Research & Work: Prior to Georgia Tech, Parks was a senior lecturer and Japanese program leader at Azusa Pacific University, where she received the CLAS Faculty Excellence Award. She has also worked in technical translation for Toppan Inc., music industry roles at record labels, and freelance interpretation/translation. Her community engagement includes leading student volunteer teams in Ishinomaki, Japan, post-2011 earthquake.
Awards: CLAS Faculty Excellence Award (Azusa Pacific University).
Additional Roles: Freelance interpreter, translator, and journalist in the music industry. Active in community service initiatives.
