Yulia Gradskova is Associate Professor and Research Coordinator at the Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES), Södertörn University. She holds a PhD in History (Södertörn University, 2007) and MA in Political Sciences (Central European University, 1996). Her research employs decolonial perspectives to examine Soviet and post-Soviet gender/social history.
Current research includes the project 'Maternity in the Time of Traditional Values and Femonationalism,' supported by ÖSS. Her work analyzes Soviet 'emancipation' politics in former imperial borderlands, particularly focusing on Muslim women in the Volga-Ural region. She investigates how Soviet policies ignored pre-existing national movements for women's education and rights.
