Leo Hedrich is a doctoral researcher at the Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient, affiliated with the ERC-funded project In Pursuit of ‘Legality’ and ‘Justice’. Minority Struggles in the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union (JUSTIMINO) since May 2024. His research examines Muslim parliamentary groups in the Russian State Duma (1906–1916), focusing on legal dynamics and ethnic representation across the Volga-Ural region, Caucasus, Crimea, and Central Asia.

His work intersects Legal History, Imperial History, and Islamic Studies, analyzing how Muslim deputies navigated land access and migration policies in early 20th-century Russia. He also contributed to translating and editing Tatar theological texts (e.g., works by Ziyaetdin Kamali and Musa Bigiev) as part of collaborative scholarly efforts.
Previously, he served as a student assistant at the Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient (2020–2024) and the Berlin Center for Cold War Studies (2019–2022). He co-organized the Minorities in Imperial Space conference at ZMO.
