Yulia Furlong

Associate Professor Yulia Furlong is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the UWA Medical School's Psychiatry department. She serves as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and founding Director of The Beacon Clinic in Subiaco, Western Australia. Her roles include clinical leadership, academic teaching, and research supervision at UWA. She chairs the WA Psychotropic Medication Expert Group and contributes to national/state committees on youth psychiatry standards.

Education: Earned a Doctorate in Psychiatry from University College Cork (Ireland, 2009), focusing on psychiatric comorbidities in chronic illness. Holds a Graduate Diploma in University Teaching and Learning from University College Dublin.

Research Interests: Neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD, autism, Tourette’s), genomics-driven psychopharmacology, youth mental health service reform, and interdisciplinary care models. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and health equity.

Notable Contributions: Authored chapters in Oxford Textbook of Neuropsychiatry, Brain Tumour, and Autism Spectrum Disorder – Profile, Heterogeneity, Neurobiology and Intervention. Leads the PCH EXPAAND trial addressing self-harm interventions in adolescents.
