Dr. Yulia Aleshina is a Professorial Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at George Washington University's Professional Psychology Program. She joined in 1997 after relocating from Russia, where she earned her Ph.D. from Moscow State University and served as a professor. Her expertise spans clinical supervision, psychoanalytic theory application, and mentalization strategies. Currently, she is a Training and Supervising Psychoanalyst at the Washington-Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis, teaching and supervising candidates. She maintains a private practice in Washington, DC, specializing in adults, children, couples, and families.
Dr. Aleshina’s research focuses on clinical supervision, psychodynamic therapy methodologies, and treatment approaches for patients with complex diagnoses. She teaches courses on Clinical Supervision, Family Therapy, and Short-term Psychodynamic Therapy at GW. Previously, she held roles in clinical settings across the US, including nursing homes and community clinics. Her training includes a post-doctoral fellowship at the Washington School of Psychiatry and psychoanalytic certification from the Baltimore-Washington Psychoanalytic Institute.
She is actively involved in professional education, contributing to the Baltimore-Washington Center for Psychoanalysis as an instructor. Her career bridges academic teaching, clinical practice, and psychoanalytic training, emphasizing practical application of theoretical frameworks in diverse patient populations.
