Helen DeVinney

Helen DeVinney is an Adjunct Professor of Clinical Psychology in the Professional Psychology Program at George Washington University's Columbian College of Arts & Sciences. She holds a Psy.D. and completed postdoctoral training at GW, later joining its core faculty. Her clinical and academic work integrates psychoanalysis with critical theory, self-inquiry, and social justice. She has trained in diverse settings, including a state psychiatric hospital, focusing on severe symptomatology in civilian and forensic populations.

Her research explores intersections of psychoanalysis with gender, sexuality, race, and class, emphasizing trauma's impact on identity and the role of systemic oppression in defining 'pathology.'
