Yuko Matsubara is a Lecturer in Chinese and Japanese at Vassar College, where she has taught courses ranging from elementary Japanese (JAPA 205) to advanced Japanese (JAPA 350) since joining in 2000. She holds a BA in English Language and Literature from Reitaku University, a BA in English Language Teaching from the University of Stirling, and an MA in Second Language Teaching from SUNY New Paltz.

Her research and professional interests span Japanese language teaching, cultural studies, and traditional Japanese tea ceremony. With over two decades of study in the latter, she currently trains at the prestigious Urasenke Chanoyu Center in Manhattan, enriching her cultural expertise. She has been instrumental in teaching a spectrum of Japanese language courses at Vassar, contributing to the Department of Chinese and Japanese within the Asian Studies program.
