Yuki Yasumoto is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Comparative Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. Her research focuses on neuroendocrine regulation of homeostasis, glial cell biology, and lipid metabolic pathways in health and disease. She investigates how glial cell metabolism influences systemic metabolic processes and contributes to disorders such as ataxia and neuroinflammation. Her work integrates virology, cell biology, and neuroscience, with notable studies on SARS-CoV-2 neuroinvasion, placental infection, and the effects of ketogenic diets on aging-related viral susceptibility.
Key collaborators include Tamas Horvath (Neuroscience), Akiko Iwasaki (Virology), and Craig Wilen (Microbiology). Yasumoto’s research has been published in high-impact journals such as Neuron, Cell, and Molecular Psychiatry.
Her lab explores interdisciplinary approaches to understand the interplay between glial cells, metabolic pathways, and neurological diseases. Current studies focus on lipid dynamics in astrocytes and their role in neurodegenerative conditions.
