Yuka Nakayama-Lewicki is an Adjunct Professor of Music and Piano at The College of Wooster and holds a concurrent position as Adjunct Piano Faculty at Kent State University at Stark. She holds a Doctor of Arts in Music and Artist Diploma from Ball State University, alongside degrees from Tokyo Gakugei University. A renowned pianist and chamber musician, she specializes in performing classical and contemporary repertoire, notably premiering the complete piano works of Makiko Kinoshita. Her recordings of Kinoshita’s works were critically acclaimed in Japan. She is a Steinway Educational Partner and recipient of the Steinway & Sons Top Teacher Award (2017, 2022).
Her teaching spans institutions including the University of Akron, Ball State University, and Tokyo Gakugei University. She founded the JAY Trio (clarinet, violin, piano), performing across Ohio and New York. Notable performances include collaborations with the Wooster Symphony Orchestra and broadcasts on Cleveland’s WCLV. Her pedagogical focus emphasizes musicality, technical precision, and fostering student success in competitions and orchestral performances.
Educational Background: B.M. and M.M. (Tokyo Gakugei University), Artist Diploma and Doctor of Arts (Ball State University), additional studies at Kent State University. Primary teachers include Takamichi Kobayashi, Hiromi Takazawa, Ray Kilburn, and Donna Lee.
Awards: In addition to Steinway honors, she won the 2010 International Piano Competition of Slavic Music. Her students have excelled in competitions and orchestral performances, reflecting her commitment to excellence in music education.
