Yujun Zhao

Yujun Zhao is a Teaching Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Stevens Institute of Technology. He holds a PhD (2001) in Biocatalysis/Chemical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, an MS (1992) in Cellular Engineering/Chemical Engineering from the University of Tokyo, and a BE (1984) in Chemical Process Equipment and Machinery from East China University of Science and Technology.

His research focuses on biocatalysis, thermodynamic modeling, bioreactor design, and biochemical engineering. Notable contributions include studies on immobilized cell biocatalysts, substrate/product distribution in bioreduction processes, and somatic embryogenesis in plants. His work bridges chemical engineering principles with biological systems, emphasizing practical applications in biotechnology and biofuels.

Zhao has held various institutional leadership roles at Stevens, including multiple committee chairs and membership positions. He is affiliated with the AIChE North Jersey Section and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He teaches a wide range of courses, including Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics, and Fluid Dynamics.
