Dr. Yujiro Yamanaka serves as Associate Professor at Hokkaido University's Graduate School of Education and holds a Visiting Researcher position at the University of Groningen. Holding a Doctor of Medicine degree from Hokkaido University, his career spans key roles in chronobiology research since 2008.
- 2016-present: Core Faculty, Brain Science Research and Education Center
- 2010-2016: Assistant Professor, Graduate School of Medicine
- 2008-2010: Postdoctoral Researcher
His research focuses on human circadian systems through interdisciplinary lenses:
- Chronobiology: Dual oscillator models, rhythm entrainment
- Sleep Science: Light-dark cycle impacts, temporal isolation
- Sports Physiology: Exercise timing effects on circadian clocks
- Nutritional Chronobiology: Meal timing and glucose metabolism
- Environmental Physiology: Lighting conditions and wearable devices
Recent publications (2022-2025) demonstrate expertise in melatonin modulation, nonphotic entrainment, and time-sensitive physiological responses. Collaborations span microbiology, exercise science, and public health domains.
Awarded multiple times for both research and teaching excellence, including:
- 3× Excellent Teacher Awards (2021-2023)
- 2017 COI2021 Special Award
- 2014 Academic Encouragement Award (Chronobiology Society)
His work extends to public engagement through media appearances and patent development of light irradiation devices, bridging laboratory research to real-world health applications.
