Yuelian Liu

Dr. Yuelian Liu is an Associate Professor at the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA), specializing in Oral Cell Biology. Her research focuses on biomaterials, bone regeneration, and implantology, with contributions to biomimetic materials for dental and orthopedic applications. She holds editorial roles in the Journal of Regenerative Medicine and Dentistry and has received multiple awards, including the André Schroeder Prize (2003) and the European Price for Basic Research in Implant Dentistry (2014).

Dr. Liu earned her PhD in Biomaterials from Leiden University (2003), with a focus on osteoinductive dental implants. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and innovation. She has led several research projects, including the development of osteoinductive bone substitutes and biomimetic coatings for implants.

Her research interests span biomaterials science, surface modifications of dental implants, and the interplay between microbiota and tumor immunity. Key projects include the BIOBONE biomimetic bone substitute and investigations into BMP-2 release kinetics on titanium implants.

Dr. Liu has secured grants such as the 'Development of innovative bone substitute carrier' (2019–2023) and 'Samenwerkingsproject 08CDP043' (2008–2011). She has supervised 12 PhD theses and actively engages in academic activities, including invited lectures on biomaterials and implant dentistry.
