Yuanli Bai is a Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Central Florida (UCF), leading the Lab of Solid and Structure Mechanics. He holds a Ph.D. from MIT (2008) and bachelor's/master's degrees from Tsinghua University (2000/2003). Prior to UCF, he worked at General Electric Global Research Center.
His research focuses on plasticity, fracture mechanics, and lightweight materials, including alloys, composites, and virus mechanics. He has published over 100 papers in top journals and conferences. Notable works include studies on additive manufacturing of micro-lattice structures, mechanical properties of SARS-CoV-2, and fracture modeling of advanced materials.
Awards include UCF's Teaching Incentive Program Award (2022), Research Incentive Award (2019), and a GE Growth Competition win (2009). He teaches courses in mechanics, finite element analysis, and materials engineering.
