Yuan Hu

Dr. Yuan Hu is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at SETU Carlow, Ireland, and a member of the engCORE research centre. She holds a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering from Northwestern Polytechnical University (China), with postdoctoral research experience at University College Dublin (UCD) and her alma mater. Her research focuses on advanced composite materials, structural health monitoring of wind turbine blades, and biomedical engineering applications. She is also involved in sustainable development goals related to renewable energy infrastructure and composite recycling.

Education:

• MSc in Aeronautical Engineering, Northwestern Polytechnical University (2015–2018)

Research Interests:
Dr. Hu specializes in damage mechanisms of polymer composites, fracture toughness enhancement, and structural health monitoring. Her work addresses challenges in aerospace, wind energy, and biomedical sectors, emphasizing recyclable composite materials and their applications in sustainable technologies.

Grants & Recognition:

• Recipient of €666,000 from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) for the CleerBlade project (2025)
• Co-inventor of a patented impact test fixture for composite laminates (2022)

Labs & Collaborations:
She contributes to the engCORE research group and collaborates with institutions like KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) and Northwestern Polytechnical University (China).
