معرفی
Yu Zhang is an Assistant Professor in Architecture at the Department of Architecture, University of Cambridge, and a Design Fellow at Clare College. Her work bridges sustainable architectural design, structural engineering, and digital technologies through interdisciplinary research.
- Education: PhD in Mechanical and Process Engineering (ETH Zurich, 2023), Master in Civil and Environmental Engineering (MIT, 2017)
Yu's research focuses on sustainable (re)generative structures in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. She integrates digital technologies and sustainable processes to evaluate ecological, economic, and social sustainability across structural lifecycles. Her work emphasizes fabrication-aware design optimization and interactive frameworks for green, high-performance structures tailored to user needs.
Her publications highlight expertise in AI-driven optimization (machine learning, Bayesian methods), microfluidic systems (image processing, droplet analysis), and carbon-neutral industrial systems (ethylene production, bio-based pathways). Projects span from sustainable compressed earth block dwellings for refugee camps to intelligent monitoring of chemical processes.
Yu collaborates across disciplines with industrial partners and has contributed to decolonizing architectural practices through the UNFOLD initiative at Cambridge.
