Dr. HaNa Yu is a Lecturer in Future Manufacturing Engineering at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Bath. Her research focuses on advanced composite materials, sustainable manufacturing processes, and innovative recycling methods for carbon fiber composites. She leads and collaborates on projects such as the GKN Prosperity Partnership (2023–2028) targeting hydrogen storage and aircraft structural innovations, and the EPSRC-funded 'Novel 3D tailored discontinuous fibre preforms for a sustainable future in composite manufacturing' (2023–2026).
- Expertise: Composite material design, pseudo-ductility enhancement, closed-loop recycling, additive manufacturing, and fuel cell components.
- Key Projects: Includes development of the HiPerDiF technology for high-performance discontinuous fiber composites and 3D printing feedstocks.
Her research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through sustainable material lifecycle management and eco-efficient manufacturing systems. Yu has pioneered methods to optimize mechanical properties of hybrid composites while addressing environmental impacts. Current work emphasizes alignment of fibers and hybrid material systems to achieve enhanced toughness and recyclability.
Her 62+ publications span topics like carbon fiber recycling, interlaminar fracture toughness, and pseudo-ductility in composites. She actively supervises doctoral students and collaborates with industry partners like GKN and the Aerospace Technology Institute.
