Yu Yuan is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Washington. He holds a PhD from the University of Minnesota (1998) and specializes in Differential Geometry and Partial Differential Equations. His research focuses on geometric analysis, elliptic equations, and applications to medical imaging. He has taught courses such as Calculus III, Introduction to Partial Differential Equations, and advanced topics like Linear and Nonlinear Elliptic Equations. His work is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Recent research includes studies on carotid and intracranial artery atherosclerosis using MRI, stroke risk assessment, and AI-driven medical image analysis. He has published extensively on vascular imaging techniques, plaque characterization, and neurovascular health.
Teaching Highlights: M125DE Calculus II (2020), M581A Linear and Nonlinear Elliptic Equations (2019), and M557 Introduction to PDEs (2016). NSF-funded projects include studies on vessel wall MRI and plaque progression analysis. He collaborates internationally on comparative atherosclerosis studies between populations. His technical expertise spans mathematical modeling, image segmentation algorithms, and clinical data integration.
