Dr. Jessica Benitez Mendieta is a Biomedical Engineer with a PhD in cardiovascular biomechanics and dual Master’s degrees in medical physics and lumbar spine biomechanics. She holds a Sessional Employment Contract with Queensland University of Technology (QUT) within the Academic Division. Her research focuses on analyzing fluid and structural biomechanics in carotid arteries, coronary arteries, heart atrium, and intracranial aneurysms, with a particular emphasis on developing novel methods to assess plaque stresses and arterial wall mechanics using patient-specific imaging and computational models.
Education:
- PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Queensland University of Technology
- Master’s degrees in Medical Physics and Lumbar Spine Biomechanics
Research Interests:
- Computational biomechanics of cardiovascular systems
- Medical imaging analysis for disease assessment
- Fluid-structure interaction in arterial systems
- Biomechanical evaluation of atherosclerosis and aneurysms
Publications highlight contributions to carotid artery dynamics, intracranial aneurysm pulsation analysis, and the impact of calcification on plaque vulnerability. Collaborations include interdisciplinary teams at QUT and other institutions, focusing on translating biomechanical insights into clinical applications.
