Yu Shaocai

Prof. Yu Shaocai serves as Chair Professor at Zhejiang University's College of Environment and Natural Resources since 2014 and directs the Lab for Sources and Causes of Atmospheric Pollution. He holds adjunct roles at California Institute of Technology (Visiting Professor) and North Carolina State University (Adjunct Professor). His expertise bridges atmospheric chemistry and meteorology, with a Ph.D. from NC State University (1999) following degrees from Peking University.

• Research Focus: Aerosol-cloud-climate interactions, air pollution modeling (WRF-CMAQ), and geoengineering solutions like water mist pollution control.
• Key Contributions: Discovered aerosols' enhanced cloud cooling effects, demonstrated electric vehicles' PM2.5 reduction potential, and identified regional PM2.5 transport as Beijing haze's primary cause.

Awards: Includes U.S. EPA's highest honors (Silver Medal, STAA), IAAM Lecture Award, and Royal Meteorological Society Fellowship.

He has advised 25+ students/researchers and led over 10 NSFC/MOST-funded projects. Editorial roles include editor-in-chief of Atmospheric and Climate Sciences and associate editor of Environmental Chemistry Letters.
