Yu-Chiao Chiu

Dr. Yu-Chiao Chiu serves as Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Malignant Hematology and Medical Oncology and holds a secondary appointment as Assistant Professor of Computational and Systems Biology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is additionally affiliated with the Cancer Therapeutics Program at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, Pittsburgh Liver Research Center, and serves as Graduate Faculty in both the Joint Carnegie Mellon-University of Pittsburgh Ph.D. Program in Computational Biology and the Integrative Systems Biology Graduate Program.

His academic background includes a BS in Electrical Engineering from National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan (2010) and a PhD in Bioinformatics from National Taiwan University (2015), followed by postdoctoral training at Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute, University of Texas Health San Antonio (2017-2022) under Drs. Yidong Chen and Peter Houghton.

Dr. Chiu's research integrates bioinformatics and machine learning to develop computational models for cancer genomics and pharmacogenomics, with emphasis on improving therapeutic strategies through systematic analysis of genomic and drug response data. Current work focuses on identifying resistance mechanisms and prognostic markers in acute myeloid leukemia using artificial intelligence-driven approaches to personalize treatment selection.
