Youngmee Kim is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Miami's College of Arts and Sciences. She holds the Cooper Fellow title and serves as Study Section Chair and Associate Editor in her field. Her research focuses on the psychosocial, physical, and spiritual impacts of cancer on families, with a particular emphasis on stress regulation, sleep health, and dyadic interventions for patients and caregivers.
Her work investigates mechanisms linking cancer experiences to health outcomes, including cardiovascular stress responses, neuroendocrine biomarkers, and sleep disturbances. Key areas include developing interventions targeting sleep and stress in patient-caregiver dyads, exploring cultural and gender differences in health outcomes, and understanding the role of social support and spirituality in adjustment.
Dr. Kim’s research has led to the creation of tools like the dyadic stress induction task and interventions such as My Sleep Our Sleep (MSOS). Her awards include the Cooper Fellow distinction. She collaborates internationally, emphasizing the need for holistic approaches to cancer survivorship and caregiver well-being.
Her lab, the FAMILY Lab, focuses on facilitating adjustment to medical illness through interdisciplinary research. Current studies address healthy lifestyle promotion among cancer survivors and their families, leveraging both self-report and biometric measures (e.g., actigraphy, cortisol assays).
