Michael H Antoni is a Professor and Director of the Health Division and Center for Psycho-Oncology Research in the Department of Psychology at the University of Miami's College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on cognitive-behavioral stress management (CBSM) interventions for cancer patients, examining psychosocial and biobehavioral mechanisms linking stress to health outcomes. He leads the Antoni Lab, which develops interventions to improve quality of life, symptom management, and survival through relaxation, cognitive restructuring, and interpersonal skills training. His work includes culturally adapted delivery formats like eHealth, mHealth, and virtual reality. Dr. Antoni holds roles in multiple institutional committees, including the SCCC Population Science Group and Behavioral and Community Based Shared Resource (BCSR) leadership. His research emphasizes neuroendocrine, inflammatory, and immune functioning in cancer patients, with a focus on disparities and neighborhood-level factors.
Key areas include the impact of social adversity, neighborhood disadvantage, and stress management on cancer biology and outcomes. He has led studies on breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers, with publications exploring cortisol levels, quality of life, and intervention efficacy.
