Dr Youngha Chang is an Associate Professor in Innovation Management at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) within the University of Sussex Business School. He holds a PhD in Technology and Innovation Management from SPRU (2018), an MSc (distinction) in the same field, and degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Seoul National University. His research focuses on corporate venturing, digital transformations, and technology strategy, particularly in large firms. Prior to academia, he spent 11 years at Samsung SDS in roles such as innovation strategy manager and technology strategy manager, leading projects like Open Innovation strategy and Green IT initiatives.
His doctoral thesis examined the 26-year evolution of corporate venturing in a Korean ICT firm, revealing cyclical patterns driven by resource reconfiguration. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and teaches modules on Managing Innovation, Digital Transformations, Entrepreneurial Finance, and Strategic Management. His work bridges academic insights with industry practice, emphasizing proactive organizational adaptation in dynamic markets.
Professional activities include membership in AsSIST-UK, a network for science, technology, and innovation scholars. His research has been published in peer-reviewed formats, including his thesis and edited volumes on innovation convergence.
