Young-Chang Cho (b. 1958) has been a Professor of Cello at Folkwang University of the Arts since 1987. A globally acclaimed cellist, he debuted with the Seoul Philharmonic at age 12 and trained under masters including Mstislav Rostropovitch and Siegfried Palm. His career spans solo performances with orchestras like the Washington National Symphony and NHK Symphony Tokyo, alongside appearances at festivals like the Kronberg Cello Festival.
His research focuses on advanced cello technique, chamber music collaboration, and interpretive approaches to classical repertoire. The New York Times described his recitals as "one of the most exciting musical evenings of the year," while The Strad praised his "atom-splitting control and seemingly endless powers of musical expression."
