Dr. You-Ying Chau is a Senior Research Fellow (EPICT) at the Centre for Cardiovascular Science, University of Edinburgh, specializing in adipose tissue biology and stem cell research. Her work bridges cardiovascular science with metabolic disease mechanisms.
Her primary research interests include:
- Adipose Tissue Heterogeneity and Function
- Adipose Progenitor/Stem Cell Development
- Obesity Pathophysiology
- Vasculature-Immune Cell Interactions
- Gene Expression Pathways in Disease
- Developmental Origins of Metabolic Disorders
Dr. Chau's laboratory investigates functional differences in adipose progenitors across anatomical depots, examining their unique molecular signatures during normal development and in obesity-related pathologies. Her team actively studies crosstalk between adipose progenitors and neighboring cellular components, particularly vascular networks and immune cells, to elucidate mechanisms driving metabolic dysfunction.
Current research group composition includes Erasmus student Aleix Navarro, reflecting active mentorship in international research training.
