Prashant Rajbhandari, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Bone Disease at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. His research program bridges immunology and metabolism, focusing on the complex interplay between immune cells and adipose tissue function.
Dr. Rajbhandari's research interests encompass three primary areas: immune cell regulation of lipid metabolism, developmental processes of brown/beige and white fat, and adipose-liver crosstalk in obesity. His work employs cutting-edge techniques including cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, next-generation sequencing (ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq), animal models, single cell/nuclei RNA sequencing, and advanced imaging.
The Rajbhandari Lab's publications reveal a strong focus on the intersection of immunology and metabolism, with particular attention to sex-specific differences, neurotensin signaling, and immune regulatory crosstalk in adipose tissue thermogenesis. This research has significant implications for understanding obesity-related diseases and developing novel therapeutic approaches.
Dr. Rajbhandari maintains an active collaboration with St. Luke's Hospital, facilitating translational research that bridges basic science discoveries with clinical applications in human adiposity. His lab's work is particularly relevant to diabetes research given his appointment in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Bone Disease.
Office Location: Atran Berg Laboratory Building, 5th Floor, Room AB5-12, 1428 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10029
