Yonatan Berman is a Lecturer in Economics at the Department of Political Economy, King’s College London, within the School of Politics & Economics. He is affiliated with multiple institutions including the International Inequalities Institute (LSE), the Stone Centre at UCL, and the World Inequality Database Project (WID.world). Previously, he held roles as a visiting professor at City University of New York, a research fellow at the London Mathematical Laboratory, and a postdoctoral fellow at the Paris School of Economics. He earned his PhD from Tel Aviv University.
His research focuses on the intersection of public and labor economics with political economy, emphasizing quantitative methods. Key areas include income and wealth distribution dynamics, social mobility, and their inter-relationships. He contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives like the Quantitative Political Economy Research Group, bridging economics and political science through advanced modeling and data analysis.
Berman’s work spans theoretical and empirical studies, addressing topics such as austerity’s health impacts, wealth inequality measurement, and the long-run evolution of mobility. He actively participates in events like the 2023 Workshop on the Economics and Politics of Migration, organized with EBRD and Kadir Has University. His affiliations with institutions like the Centre for British Democracy reflect his interest in UK governance and constitutional studies.
Teaching focuses on macroeconomics and PhD supervision in public economics and political economy, particularly regarding inequality. Office hours are held weekly (in-person and online). Berman’s research also engages with stochastic modeling, policy analysis, and the socio-economic implications of immigration, as seen in studies on UK inequality impacts.
