David Hope is a Senior Lecturer in Political Economy at King’s College London and a Visiting Senior Fellow at the London School of Economics (LSE) International Inequalities Institute (III). He holds a PhD in Political Science from the LSE Department of Government (2017), an MSc in Economics from LSE, and a BSc in Economics from University College London (UCL).
His research focuses on comparative political economy, advanced democracies in Western Europe and North America, and intersects economics with political science. Key areas include technological change and the knowledge economy, inequality and redistribution, taxing the rich, varieties of capitalism, and growth models. He employs both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
David’s recent work analyzes the impact of tax cuts on financial sectors, public perception of high earners’ work complexity, and the relationship between inequality and carbon taxation support. He has contributed to prestigious journals like World Politics, Socio-Economic Review, and European Journal of Political Economy.
- Grants: Leverhulme Trust-funded project on knowledge-based growth (2022–2025) and a Stone Centre grant for studying inequality perceptions and carbon taxation (2023–2024).
- Collaborations: Co-investigator with Julian Limberg, Niccolo Durazzi, and others on multiple projects.
He is affiliated with the Comparative Politics Research Group, Quantitative Political Economy Research Group, and the Social Equity and Social Welfare subgroup at King’s College London.
