Professor Dou’s research centers on financial reporting quality, debt contracting, and the real effects of accounting standards, with a particular focus on bank accounting and disclosure. His work explores how accounting rules influence lending behavior, securitization practices, and financial covenant enforcement. He investigates how regulatory changes, such as FAS 166/167 and SFAS 161, impact firm decisions and market outcomes.
His recent publications apply machine learning to earnings forecasting and examine corruption in lending, information externalities in supply chains, and labor market effects on financial reporting. Collectively, his research bridges financial accounting with corporate finance, banking, and regulatory economics, often using empirical methods to assess the economic consequences of accounting standards.
Notable scientific recognition includes being named the Bank and Financial Analysts Faculty Fellow. His work has been published in premier journals such as Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, The Accounting Review, and Management Science.
