Dr. Yifei Zhang is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at The University of Hong Kong Business School, where he also serves as the Deputy Programme Director and Admissions Tutor for the BEcon/BEcon & Fin programs. He is affiliated with the HKU Jockey Club Enterprise Sustainability Global Research Institute, reflecting his strong interest in sustainable business practices and ESG topics.
Dr. Zhang's academic journey includes:

- M.A. in Economics from The State University of New York at Albany (Advisor: Fang Yang)
- B.Sc. in Applied & Computational Mathematics from Hong Kong Baptist University (Advisor: Kwok-Po Michael Ng)
Dr. Zhang's research focuses on the Chinese Economy, Development Economics, Political Economy, Corporate Finance, and ESG topics. His work examines critical issues at the intersection of economic policy, financial markets, and sustainable development. He has made significant contributions to understanding how environmental regulations affect wage inequality, how the Belt and Road Initiative impacts household finance, and how corporate governance structures influence environmental performance. His research often employs rigorous empirical methods to analyze large datasets from Chinese and international contexts, providing evidence-based insights for policymakers and business leaders.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong trend toward interdisciplinary research that bridges economics, finance, and sustainability. A significant portion of his work examines the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly on small businesses and corporate behavior. He has also produced influential research on the Belt and Road Initiative's financial implications, environmental regulation effects, and corporate governance issues in Chinese firms. Dr. Zhang's scientific achievements have been recognized with the Elsevier Award for Best Papers published in China Economic Review in 2018 for his work on the One Belt One Road initiative's impact on Chinese overseas direct investment.
Dr. Zhang has secured multiple research grants as both Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator, including General Research Fund grants from the Research Council of the Hong Kong SAR Government, The Royal Society of Edinburgh Small Research Grant, and The Principles for Responsible Management Education UK & Ireland Seed Funding. He has supervised numerous students whose co-authored works have been published in academic journals such as the Journal of Comparative Economics and Economics Letters. His dedication to teaching is evident in his experience teaching various economics courses including Chinese Economy, Econometrics, and Game Theory.
