Yeon-Soo Kim

Yeon-Soo Kim is an Associate Professor and Graduate Director in the Department of Latin American, Iberian, and Luso-Afro-Brazilian Literatures and Cultures (LAILAB) at Rutgers University. She holds a Ph.D. from Yale University and specializes in contemporary Spanish literature and culture. Her research explores themes of historical memory, cultural identity, and postcolonial narratives.

Research Interests: Dr. Kim’s work analyzes how Spanish cultural production engages with dictatorial legacies, democratic transitions, and transnational identities. Her monograph The Family Album (2005) reinterprets Spain’s post-Franco identity through familial archives, while her upcoming work interrogates exoticism in Spanish depictions of Asia. She also studies ethical representation in immigrant narratives and second language acquisition dynamics.

Professional Contributions: Her scholarship bridges literary analysis with historical critique, focusing on decolonial methodologies and postcolonial theory. She advises graduate students and oversees departmental graduate programs.
