Dr. Yaşar Safkan is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at Özyeğin University's Graduate School of Science and Engineering. With a dual background in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Physics from Boğaziçi University (1995) and a PhD in Physics from MIT (2001), he has bridged academia and industry across two decades.
- Education:
- BS in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Physics, Boğaziçi University (1995)
- PhD in Physics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2001)
His research spans software management, nuclear physics, and interdisciplinary applications. While his early work focused on neutron-proton scattering and speech synthesis, he transitioned to software management after joining industry roles at Google, Denizbank, and Hepsiburada. At Özyeğin, he directs software project management research while previously teaching physics and engineering at Boğaziçi (2001-2016) and Yeditepe Universities (2003-2006, 2017-2020).
Publications reveal dual expertise in nuclear physics (2001-2002) and computer science (2005-2006), covering cross-section measurements, Turkish speech synthesis, and sensor network reliability. His academic journey reflects a unique trajectory between fundamental science and applied software engineering.
