Dr. Yaukpala Gofan is an Assistant Professor at the University of Detroit Mercy's College of Health Professions. She joined UDM in 2018 and holds a D.N.P. in Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner from the University of Michigan-Flint, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ohio University, and an Associate in Applied Science in Nursing from Oakland Community College.
Her research focuses on the emotional and physical health effects of storytelling among African American women diagnosed with breast cancer, emphasizing cross-sectional and longitudinal studies. Clinically, she has experience in medical-surgical nursing, cardiothoracic intensive care, and internal medicine as a nurse practitioner at Karmanos Cancer Institute.
Dr. Gofan teaches courses such as Medical Surgical Nursing, Patho-Pharmacology, and Nursing Leadership. She values diversity, equity, and inclusion at Detroit Mercy and highlights the university's campus beauty and architectural history. Her motivation stems from educating future nurses to improve healthcare practices.
