Yatish Patel is an Advanced Research Fellow in the Mechanics of Materials group at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Imperial College London. He holds affiliations with the Electrochemical Science and Engineering Group and the Mechanics of Materials group. His research focuses on battery degradation, safety, thermal management, diagnostics, and pack design, with cross-disciplinary expertise in materials and chemical engineering.
Education: PhD (2008) in polymer mechanical properties under extreme conditions. Previously returned to Imperial in 2012 to research lithium-ion batteries.
Research interests include battery failure modes, operational limits, and their impact on system design/safety. Teaches batteries modules for the Automotive Design with Motorsport course in the Mechanical Engineering MEng program.
Affiliations: Electrochemical Science and Engineering Group, Mechanics of Materials group. Active in interdisciplinary engineering research bridging physics and materials science.
