Yasuhiro Suzuki is a Professor in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics, with memberships in the Markey Cancer Center, Cancer Research Priority Initiative, and Molecular and Cellular Oncology Research Program. His work bridges infectious disease immunology and oncology, focusing on the links between Toxoplasma gondii infection and brain cancer risk.
- Education:
- Ph.D., University of Tokyo (1982)
- B.S., University of Tokyo (1976)
Suzuki’s research explores the molecular mechanisms of protective immunity against Toxoplasma gondii, a protozoan parasite that forms chronic brain cysts. His team uses murine models to investigate how this infection increases brain cancer risk by 1.8-fold, aiming to develop preventive strategies against both parasitic infection and associated oncogenesis. Recent projects also examine immunomodulatory agents in lung carcinoma and lymphoma models.
His scientific awards include:
- AAAS Fellow (2021)
- Sigma Xi Membership (2019)
Publications highlight a focus on T cell biology, cerebral immunity, and parasitic mechanisms in oncology, with grants from NIAID and NIEHS supporting his work on Toxoplasma gondii and cancer-related inflammation.
