Yasothara (Yaso) Nadarajah is an Associate Professor of Global Studies at RMIT University's School of Global, Urban and Social Studies (GUSS) and a Senior Research Fellow at the Social Equity Research Centre (SERC). She holds adjunct and visiting professor roles at institutions globally, including South China University of Technology and University Malaya. Her research focuses on decolonial methodologies, indigenous knowledge systems, and the intersections of culture, geography, and power. She has conducted extensive fieldwork in remote Indigenous and tribal communities across Greenland, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka.
Research interests span Sociology, Human Geography, Political Geography, and Decolonial Studies. Yaso teaches postgraduate courses on Global Development Theories, Fieldwork Methods, and Intercultural Practices. She supervises research projects addressing global challenges like Child Protection systems in Indigenous communities, US-China space security dynamics, and ecological identity crises in Western cultures.
Her work emphasizes community engagement and building coalitions across cultural divides. She serves on international committees, including the Lake Bolac Eel Festival and Kukukuku Tribal Elders Council, and co-edits the Folk, Place & Knowledge journal. Yaso’s contributions bridge academic rigor with grassroots activism, prioritizing marginalized voices in global discourse.
