Yasin Elshorbany is an Associate Professor at the University of South Florida's School of Geosciences. A former NASA scientist, he uses interdisciplinary approaches to study atmospheric composition, focusing on atmospheric chemistry, natural hazards, human health, and economic impacts of extreme events. He directs the Atmospheric Chemistry and Composition Laboratory, employing field measurements, remote sensing, and multi-scale models.
He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in organic/atmospheric chemistry and remote sensing, and advises student research projects on air pollution health impacts. His research includes atmospheric oxidation capacity studies in urban megacities (e.g., Santiago de Chile) and NSF-funded investigations into ocean spray aerosols' global impacts. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.
Specialty areas include atmospheric chemistry, remote sensing, air quality, human health, and economic costs of extreme events.
