Yasen M. Peyankov is a Professor and Head of the Theatre Program at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), within the School of Theatre and Music. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the National Academy of Theatre and Fine Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria. A prominent figure in Chicago theatre, he has been a member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Ensemble since 2002 and serves on its Board of Trustees. His career spans acting, directing, and translation, earning him notable awards and recognition.

Research & Performance Interests: Peyankov specializes in theatre performance, dramatic literature adaptation, and cross-cultural productions. His work bridges classical and contemporary theatre, emphasizing interdisciplinary and global perspectives.
Grants & Labs: He has received the Walter and Eva Fox Acting Fellowship and UIC’s Distinguished Scholar Award. His academic contributions include teaching acting at UIC since 2000 and leading the Theatre Program since 2007. He has also taught at institutions like the University of Chicago and Steppenwolf Summer School.
