Dr. Yanxu Zhang is Associate Professor in Earth and Environmental Sciences at Tulane University's School of Science and Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Washington (2013) and Peking University (2010), with research focusing on global contaminant cycling.
His work develops Earth System Models to track mercury, plastics, PFAS, and antibiotics across environmental compartments. Recent studies quantify oceanic plastic emissions, mercury re-emission fluxes, and climate change impacts on marine mercury cycles. His group integrates mechanistic process understanding with observational constraints to project environmental futures.
Publications demonstrate methodological innovations in microplastic detection, mercury isotope tracing, and machine learning applications for pollution mapping. Research consistently informs international environmental policy frameworks.
