Pengfei Zhang is a Professor in the Department of Earth & Atmospheric Science at the City College of New York (CUNY). He is also affiliated with the Earth System Science and Environmental Engineering program. His research focuses on environmental chemistry, air and water pollution, and the fate of organic contaminants in environmental systems.
Key research interests include mercury emissions from municipal sludge, sulfate production mechanisms in haze formation, antibiotic impacts on nitrogen cycles, and microbial transport in atmospheric and aquatic systems. He has conducted extensive studies on aerosol chemistry over oceans and urban regions, contributing to understanding global biogeochemical cycles and pollution dynamics.
Dr. Zhang’s work integrates field observations, laboratory experiments, and modeling to address challenges in environmental sustainability. Recent studies highlight innovative methods for pharmaceutical removal using waste-derived adsorbents and the environmental implications of antibiotics in soil systems.
