Yan Jiang

Dr. Yan Jiang is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the School of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health, The University of Sydney. He is also affiliated with the Sydney Institute of Agriculture and The Centre for Drug Discovery Innovation. Previously, he held postdoctoral positions at the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (2021-2022) and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), NIH (2019-2021).

Yan Jiang specializes in structural biology using cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to study solute carrier (SLC) transporters and voltage-gated sodium channels. His work combines biochemical and biophysical methods to elucidate molecular mechanisms of transporter function and toxin/channel interactions.

His research trends include:

• Structural characterization of SLC transporters (e.g., AtBor1 of SLC4 family)
• Investigation of Nav1.7 channel targeting for chronic pain and nerve imaging
• Analysis of autoinhibition and activation mechanisms in membrane proteins

Yan Jiang is actively involved in mentoring students, including current advisee Emily Zhou, who explores the link between glutamate transporters and episodic ataxia. His work has been supported by affiliations with leading research institutes focused on agriculture and drug discovery.
