Professor Nieng Yan serves as University Professor at Tsinghua University's School of Life Sciences and Senior Fellow at Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study, City University of Hong Kong. She concurrently holds leadership roles as Founding President of Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research & Translation and Director of Shenzhen Bay Laboratory.
Her research pioneers structural and mechanistic studies of membrane transport proteins critical to physiology and pharmacology. She determined the first structures of human glucose transporters (GLUT1/GLUT3), eukaryotic voltage-gated sodium/calcium channels, and sterol metabolism proteins. Current work focuses on structure-guided drug discovery for pain relief through structural biology approaches.

Through her directorship at Shenzhen Bay Laboratory and presidency at SMART, Professor Yan drives translational research initiatives bridging structural biology with therapeutic development in pain management and metabolic disorders.
