Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yahya Yaşar is a faculty member at Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University, Faculty of Theology, specializing in Qurʾānic exegesis, tafsir methodology, and Islamic theology. Since 2014 he has taught a wide spectrum of undergraduate, MA and PhD courses ranging from classical tafsir texts to contemporary hermeneutics and Arabic linguistics.
Education:
- PhD (2010) Sakarya University, Institute of Social Sciences – Critical Edition of Kitāb al-Tasdīq al-Maʿārif by al-Daylamī
- MA (2003) Ankara University, Institute of Social Sciences – Islamic Criminal Law
- BA (1994) Ankara University, Faculty of Theology – Theology
Research Focus:
Yaşar’s scholarship integrates classical tafsir heritage with modern linguistic and thematic approaches. He interrogates Qurʾānic semantics, critiques Orientalist readings, and explores gender-sensitive interpretations, aiming to ground contemporary Turkish Qurʾānic studies in rigorous philological and methodological foundations.
Publication Trends:
His recent articles exhibit a dual trajectory: micro-level semantic studies (e.g., nuanced analyses of “kabir”, “Shayṭān & Iblīs”) and macro-level methodological critiques (e.g., translation accuracy, historicity of revelatory occasions). Collectively they advocate greater philological precision and self-referential hermeneutics within Muslim scholarship.
Projects & Awards:
- Project Coordinator, “Women from the Age of Ignorance to the Present”, 2023.
Graduate Advising:
- Supervised three completed MA theses on comparative, thematic, and scientific-miraculous readings of Qurʾānic passages.
