Havva Özata

Havva Özata is a Doctor Lecturer at Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University, Faculty of Theology, where she has served since 2017, first as a Research Assistant and, since 2022, as a full-time faculty member.

Her research focuses on linguistic exegesis of the Qurʾān, semantics, Qurʾān translation issues, and classical Qurʾānic commentaries, with special emphasis on al-Zamakhsharī’s al-Kashshāf. She has authored or co-authored seven books and numerous peer-reviewed articles in these fields.

Recent scholarly output has concentrated on Qurʾānic lexicography, the history and methodology of linguistic tafsīr, and improving Turkish translations of the Qurʾān. Her work bridges classical commentaries and contemporary linguistics.

She currently supervises one PhD student, Sevda Yavuz, whose thesis examines the tafsīr method in al-Naysābūrī’s Ijāz al-Bayān.

Havva Özata is also an active researcher on the Quranic Words Encyclopedia Project (2020–2024, funded by public institutions), contributing lexical and semantic analyses of Qurʾānic terms.
