Prof. Yael Hanein serves as a Professor at the School of Electrical Engineering within Tel Aviv University's Iby and Aladar Fleischman Faculty of Engineering. She directs the Neuro-Engineering Lab, established in 2003 as a core facility of the Tel Aviv University Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, with additional affiliations to the Sagol School of Neuroscience.
Her research pioneers nanotechnology applications in neural interfaces, developing micro/nano devices for direct brain interfacing. Key projects include artificial retina materials and skin-mounted electrophysiology electronics, bridging engineering with neuroscience to address neurological challenges. Current work demonstrates printed electrode technology for home-based sleep monitoring as an alternative to traditional polysomnography.
Lab funding includes major grants from the Israel Science Foundation (ISF), European Research Council (ERC), German-Israeli Foundation (GIF), Israeli Ministry of Science, and Ministry of Industry and Trade. She has mentored researchers like Johnathan Kantarovsky, winner of a Best Poster Competition.
The Neuro-Engineering Lab drives innovation in medical neurotechnology through interdisciplinary collaboration, maintaining its position as one of six foundational laboratories within Tel Aviv University's Nanoscience Center since inception.
