Prof. Erez Shmueli serves as a senior faculty member and head of the Big Data Lab in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Tel Aviv University's Iby and Aladar Fleischman Faculty of Engineering, while maintaining a research affiliate position at the MIT Media Lab.
His educational foundation includes a BA (with honors) in Computer Science from Open University of Israel, MSc and PhD in Information Systems Engineering from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, followed by a two-year post-doctoral appointment at MIT Media Lab.
Research focuses on data-intensive domains including Big Data analytics, Complex Networks modeling, Computational Social Science methodologies, Machine Learning applications, Recommender Systems design, Database Systems architecture, and Information Security frameworks. His work bridges theoretical computer science with practical societal implementations across industry sectors.
Professional trajectory encompasses programming and team leadership roles in the Israeli Air-Force, project management at Deutsche Telekom Laboratories, co-founding technology startups Babator and SafeMode, and strategic consulting engagements for Microsoft and Ashdod municipality.
As director of the Big Data Lab, he cultivates interdisciplinary research environments addressing contemporary challenges in data science and network analysis.
