Xun Zhou serves as Senior Lecturer in Business Analytics at Surrey Business School, University of Surrey, and holds a Sustainability Fellowship at the Institute for Sustainability. Previously, he was Lecturer in Environmental Economics at the University of York (2021-2023) and Postdoctoral Researcher at Technical University of Munich (2020-2021).
He earned his PhD in Management Science (Econ) from Aalto University School of Business (2019), complemented by MSc and BSc degrees. His methodological expertise spans Causal Inference (Synthetic Control Methods), Performance Analytics (Convex Quantile Regression, DEA), and Sustainability Analytics (Shadow Pricing, Sustainability Indicators), with empirical applications in environmental policy evaluation, carbon abatement costing, and digital technology impacts.
Recent publications reveal a dominant trend in developing econometric frameworks for sustainability challenges, particularly through convex quantile regression applications for marginal abatement cost estimation and green productivity measurement. His work frequently addresses OECD countries, China, and Finland, demonstrating how methodological innovations solve real-world environmental economics problems while correcting biases in traditional approaches.
His scientific recognitions include:
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA)
- Sustainability Fellow at the Institute for Sustainability
As MSc dissertation supervisor in Business Analytics, he integrates research with student development while collaborating through the Centre for Business Analytics in Practice on industry-relevant sustainability analytics projects. His teaching portfolio includes Statistics and Econometrics modules alongside prior environmental economics courses at York and Munich.
The Centre for Business Analytics in Practice serves as his primary research hub, facilitating cross-disciplinary work connecting business analytics with sustainability transitions through data-driven policy evaluation and technological innovation assessment.
